Intentions vs Resolutions

The other day I mentioned that I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions. I never keep them past a week or two. They are too easily forgotten because I’m a visual learner. So I make a Vision Board. I gather images that portray what I would like to accomplish in the year ahead and they serve as visual reminders to keep my goals in reach.

Some years I actually cut pictures out of a magazine and make a poster including key words I want to focus on. Sometimes I just gather images in a file that I can look at to remind me what I want to be doing more of. I find this to be much more useful than a statement.

I want to do more kayaking on the Ohio River this spring while I still have ready access. After I head back to Colorado, I’ll be restricted to lakes and reservoirs. They don’t have the still, glasslike surface of the beautiful Ohio River. I also want to ride my bike more. There’s an excellent rails to trails system in West Virginia I want to take advantage of. I haven’t camped much in WV and there are some of the most beautiful state parks there. So, outdoorsy things are big on my list this year.

What are some of your intentions for the year?
