Ice, Ice, Baby!

Pardon the mess…we are still a work in progress here!

Well, we’re making progress here. My back pain was much improved after seeing the chiropractor on Friday and sitting on ice packs several times Friday and Saturday. Thank, God! It was becoming alarming…I don’t have time for this, you know. All that sitting gave me an opportunity to knit. Last year, I bought tons of that cotton yarn you knit dishcloths out of and I’m just about finished with it. I love tucking a little homemade something into a card or under the ribbon of a larger gift. Homemade spells love in my book. I’ll have a whole basket full of dishcloths and that ought to last me for quite some time and I can move on to other things.

The first thing we did yesterday was run into our little burg and hit the coffee shop and the bakery. What a great way to start the weekend! When I got up yesterday morning, Mr. FixIt had the tree upright and lit. I needed to center it a little better and fluff out the branches. If you notice in this picture…there’s nothing on it. That’s because I couldn’t figure out how to decorate it AND sit on ice at the same time. You can also see it’s kind of “striped”. A strand or two of the lights are out. That happens sometimes with pre-lit trees. I could tediously go through each bulb and try to find the one that’s burned out. Or, I can do what I did last year….run a string of white lights in the blank spots and call it good. Work smarter, not harder, right?

Mr. FixIt went out and washed our poor old blow-up Santa off. He gets pretty muddy by the end of the season and needed a bath. A little later, I went out and helped him hang the wreath on the end of the house. Then he took his new hedge trimmer and cleaned up the forsythia at the corner of the house. If you aren’t careful, those things will take over and then need cut back regularly. We watched football. We ordered some Rada knives from my bonus daughter’s church so he ran to town to pay for them. She gave us some venison…tenderloin and steaks…so I’m trying my hand at cooking that today. I love elk, but I’m still on the fence with venison. We’ll see.

Today, we’ll finish with the decorating, I think. Then I can write the Christmas cards while I’m sitting on ice packs. We plug along, working at our own pace. It’s good to not have a schedule you have to meet. That’s one of the benefits of retirement…and winter!

“One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.”
