How God Works

I want to tell you all about another example of how God takes care of his children. You know our furnace has been on the fritz this fall. We’ve tried everything we knew how to do, but through process of elimination, it became apparent the problem was bigger than we could handle. We also came to the conclusion it was the heat exchanger gone bad. That’s only the single most expensive part on a furnace and a bear to fix.

There are many furnace companies in and around our area we could call. But the bigger the company, the bigger the chunk taken out of your wallet. As with many of you, we are living on a fixed income so big ticket items take some planning. And we have more than one big ticket item that needs done. The furnace, and the roof.

We figured we could put off the roof till next year by painting sealant around the chimney flashing so we could focus on the furnace. Well, two things happened. Mr. FixIt’s buddy Jeff called to give us the phone number of an independent contractor who is a trained heating and refrigeration tech. He’s used this company before and recommended them as thorough, knowledgeable, and affordable.

The furnace guy came yesterday at 8:30AM. I’ve been working with Mr. FixIt enough on this to know what to listen for and what to ask so I dealt with the service person. Mr. FixIt is still distancing himself from people for a while after his bout with Covid. I led the gentleman into the basement and told him what we have done and what symptoms we’ve been noticing. He tore into the furnace and took a video of the inside of the firebox and showed it to me. The heat exchanger was riddled with holes. It’s a wonder the house hasn’t burned down or given us carbon monoxide poisoning!

He left with the promise that he would get an estimate to us by the end of the day and he would also check to see if the part was under warranty. They called back at 6:00PM and said the furnace IS still under warranty so we only have to pay for labor… a HUGE savings! Now we can call the roofer and get them started before the snow flies.

We have discussed this and how we could swing two big jobs without breaking our budget. In comes part three of the story. I truly believe that God took the Lincoln back because we needed these two things MORE. Because, the total of both jobs is almost exactly what insurance paid us for the car when it was totaled!

It is times like this that we look at each other in total awe at how incredibly good God is to us! I don’t even worry about things anymore because I know for a fact they always work out the way God wants them to. We aren’t in control of that. That’s not our business. Our business is to praise God for his loving care and goodness.

Most of my day was spent at the computer again. I have edited a total of 30,313 words in two days. I’ve created new designs for my shop. I cooked a great meal and we’re keeping up with a beautifully clean and organized kitchen and pantry. Mr. FixIt is feeling better every day. He even mulched some leaved today with the push mower! We’re keeping warm with the two gas stoves. We’re just about firing on all cylinders here and things are going smoothly at Marshmallow Ranch.
