Hot Cocoa & Knitting & Winter Solstice

Hot cocoa and knitting
“Hot cocoa and knitting…stop and enjoy the season.”

Productivity is a matter of personal interpretation. Did I wrap presents yesterday for the family Christmas dinner tonight? Um…nope. Did I bake the Pepperoni Rolls like I thought I would? Huh, uh.  However, I DID sip hot cocoa while listening to Christmas carols and knitting dishcloths. Why? I’ll tell you…

Because, we get so wrapped up in trying to have the perfect Hallmark holiday that we forget to just…be. To enjoy the moments. To sit down with someone you love and watch the rain pour down and ask if we’re ready for another cup of tea. To listen to Christmas music. To feel the warmth of the fire. To catch up with a friend on the phone. To read Christmas cards. To light candles with the scents of pine and cinnamon apples.

Those presents will get wrapped. Dinner is a pot of chili with peanut butter sandwiches and a pan of homemade cinnamon rolls. Easy peasy. We don’t get yesterday again. We only get today. Don’t be so busy trying to make something perfect that you forget to enjoy the process. Today, you have my permission to put your feet up, have a cup of tea, and knit. The rest will get done…or maybe it won’t. But you’ll feel ever so much better by slowing down. Breathe! Today is the first day of winter…the shortest amount of daylight of the year. Winter Solstice. It starts getting brighter from here on out. ❤️

““Slow down. Take a deep breath. What’s the hurry? Why wear yourself out? Just what are you after anyway? But you say, ‘I can’t help it. I’m addicted to alien gods. I can’t quit.’”

Jeremiah 2:25 MSG

  1. Funny you should show your cast on. Got a pattern for a man’s vest from WWII along with a photo of my mom as a teen from my cousin the other day. Mom’s been gone for 13.5 years, but I still cried when I got these things in the mail. This is the 1st Christmas in 25 years that has felt “normal”, not having to deal with hospitals & doctors when mom was alive, or conform to others after she passed away. It’s just me & the cats & I am extremely happy… finally!

Decided to tackle the WWII pattern on knitting needles. 1st sweater on needles in 27 years due to hand surgery. I have my looms as back up if needed…Gonna alter the pattern & add sleeves since sweater vests aren’t as popular as they once were. Got yarn on sale @ Joann’s and have my stitches cast on…fingers crossed that this works out as I “go back in time” to a simpler era that had it’s own drama and upsets with a war raging on 2, actually 3 fronts.. Europe, Japan & Africa.

Merry Christmas to you & your family.

  2. WOW Ginny! After the crazy day I had yesterday, I needed to be reminded to enjoy the season. Have a blessed Christmas!

  3. Thank you for this reminder. I needed it. I am driven by perfect. How sad is that. This reminder is just what I needed.
