Horses and Heavens

What a fun day! Little learned how to make French Toast and agrees with me…the very BEST bread to use is day old homemade sourdough! It was a taste sensation. Then, without any prompting, she went and walked her two miles. I worked on a project on the computer all afternoon while Little chilled out in her room. When it was time for supper, we thought we would go into town and get Pete’s Pizza…a special treat. Unfortunately, they were closed. So, we went to Popeye’s Chicken instead, went to our granddaughter’s to see the horses and feed them peppermints, and took a ride out to the farm. I wanted to see if my cousin was having a bonfire, but I’m sure they did that Sunday night.

The last stop of the evening was Calhoun County Park…a designated “dark sky” area. We got there just after sunset and sat in our chairs, marveling at the display slowly revealing itself over our heads. It was amazing! Little saw the Milky Way for the first time. Denver skies aren’t great for star watching. We saw satellites and identified constellations through an app on my phone.

We got home around midnight and stood in the field in awe. The trees along the creek on the far side of our fields literally GLITTER with lightning bugs…ie fireflies. Little has dubbed it the Magic Fairy Forest and she isn’t wrong…it’s jaw dropping. I’m going to have to organize a group campout here to share this beauty with others!

The icing on the cake came when Little asked, “Can we sleep in the camper again tonight, Nana?” Be still my heart…I want to bottle this up and keep it forever, this sweet, sweet thing!

  1. Ahh Look what happened. She carries her Nana with her…I have often wondered myself will any part of me go on in my child or grand children. You definitely will. I am so glad you have had this time with her Ginny. Sweet memories.
