Home Sweet Home

We were supposed to go home today, but we decided to leave yesterday afternoon after looking at the weather reports. There was rain heading our way from the remnants of Hurricane Ian and, given the small leak we found in the wheel well on Wednesday, we felt it was best to drive home while it was dry.

We had a leisurely camp breakfast. We have a “camp kitchen”…an aluminum framed stand with a shelf on either side and one below. I use our electric skillet out there and cook anything that’s going to have much odor or that creates any oily residue. We buy frozen sausage patties and take them out of the camper refrigerator/freezer as we need them. Yesterday we had sandwiches with scrambled eggs, cheese, and sausage and big mug of piping hot tea. Nothing better than cooking and eating out of doors!

We sat in front of the propane heater and chatted while I knitted and Mr. FixIt read the news to me. Finally around noon I decided it was time to started gathering and cleaning and putting things away. We left the campground around 2:30 and stopped at Leith Run Recreation Area where we camped last week. We pulled in to the large parking lot in the Day Use area, put the slide out enough to get in the bathroom, and then I fixed us some lunch. I could have stretched out right then and there and taken a nap, but Mr. FixIt wanted to get on home before dark. Always my practical partner in crime!

We got the camper all set up at home. Rain was expected to hit around 10:00. Mr. FixIt got settled in the house doing some preparatory things. He got the hoses set out for the sump pumps…just in case. We haven’t needed to use them ever since we started using root blocker in the drain! Yay!!! He turned on the furnace to get that “new season” smell out of it. I came out to the camper and got the essentials out….the tea kettle, mugs, and accoutrements. Before long, my sweetheart called and said, “Quick! Come look at the sunset!”

Red sky at night, a sailors’s delight…so they say. It was truly spectacular! One of those sunsets that’s almost as pretty behind you as it is in front. I took a gazillion pictures and hugged my man…thanking him for wanting to share this moment with me. I love this time of year and I love this camper and there are only so many nights I’ll be able to be out here enjoying it. My sweetheart shares my love of camping…traditional camping. Like…at a campground. He’s all for that. But when his bed is fifty feet away, he doesn’t quite see the point. He obviously never wanted to live in Barbie’s Dream House! So, I came back out here.

It wasn’t fifteen minutes later, he came knocking at the camper door. I got up and unlocked it and said, “Get in here! Did you forget something?” He looked at me a little sheepishly. “I wanted something sweet with my tea and you have all the snacks!” I winked at him and laughed. “Darned right I do, sweetheart! What’ll it be? Cherry pie? Apple pie? Cookies?” He smiled big. He knows I know the quickest way to his heart.

“Cherry pie…AND cookies!” And a big ol’ hug, you ol’ teddy bear! I truly love this man… ‘deed I do.

Happy October!!!

***Oh, and by the way…FB seems to have corrected the comment issue I was having because I saw you ALL yesterday! ?
