Holding Things

Crocks
“Crocks waiting for a new home.”

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4 NIV

I’ve been thinking a lot about my grandma lately. I’ve been so busy the last three weeks that I haven’t had a chance to spend much time at the farm. Mr. FixIt and I were thinking of going camping this weekend, but for a number of reasons…not the least of which is being just plain tired of running around…we’ve decided to head to the farm for a much needed respite.

The change of seasons are especially beautiful there. As things come to life in the spring and the dark grays of winter turn to buds of green, my heart soars because I’m heading into my favorite season. I’ve always had a little more difficulty accepting the changes of fall because that mean the dark days of winter are close on its heels. Mr. Virgo always told me, “It’s all in your head. It’s just a matter of what you tell yourself. If you say you hate winter, then guess what? You’re going to hate it!” He was right, of course. So, this fall, I am planning some really special things that will make the season joyful and beautiful. I’m going to do some heavy fall decorating this year. I want to get pumpkins and bittersweet, corn shocks and straw bales, Indian corn and maybe even some clear twinkly lights and dress up the farm. Won’t that be pretty?

I’ll take you along with me as I pick and choose. Maybe we’ll go to a pumpkin patch. Maybe we’ll find a cider press. Whatever we do, we’re going to make this season extra special so I won’t dread winter. Just like grandma’s old crocks that used to hold things, I’m going to use my heart as a vessel to hold beautiful things and make new memories! ?

  1. Fall is my very favorite season.I love everything about it….except for the 6 months of winter that follows.I try to find the beauty in Winter, but there’s so little daylight left after work, that I can’t find much.So I hibernate.

  2. What a beautiful visual thought….use your heart as a vessel to hold beautiful things and make new memories….I’m going to dig out my grandmother’s old crockery bowls today….Thanks for the inspiration, lovely lady!

  3. I will be tagging along, too. Mr.Virgo was right. We all have to be careful, our best life is what we let God make of it. Be Positive!!!
