Heading to the Mountains Again

I can’t be here this long and not go see my brother again. We’re heading back up to the mountains today for a couple of days to get some more hugs. We’ll be back Wednesday then Thursday Daughter #1 and Big leave for a long weekend in California to visit friends. They won’t be back till late Sunday night.

I had a great day visiting with my Colorado kids. I went down and picked up Daughter #2 for brunch. (Are you detecting a pattern here? We LOVE brunch!) When she got in the car she asked, “Where are we headed, Mom?” Oooooooh….since it was my choice there was no question. Zaidy’s Delicatessen. They’ve moved since the old days but it was still nostalgic. One of my very first dates with Hubby #2 was to Zaidy’s when they were located down in Cherry Creek. I had my first bowl of Matzo Ball Soup there. So, of course…that’s what I had yesterday. The soup was exactly as I remembered…so savory and delicious. The only thing different was the matzo ball itself. Back in 1978 it was twice the size as the one at the new location, but it didn’t disappoint.

The other day when we cooked all those traditional Jewish dishes, our friend Abby (who is actually Jewish) didn’t get to have any of them. So I bought some chopped liver and an onion pletzel so she could have them. They were all over at the pool when I got back so I took it over. First of all, she had never heard of pletzel. And second, she reluctantly tried the chopped liver but it was pretty dry. I have to say…mine is better. But she was so happy that I thought of her. And the pletzel was a hit!

Since they’re going to be gone next weekend, they came over to Ben and Sue’s last night for supper. We had a great visit and we’ll get to see each other again before we leave next week. I will get some time with Little while her mom and sister are gone. We haven’t had time to be together just one-on-one. She and I both love to go junking so we’ll do that and have lunch.

We’ll blink and this trip will be over.

*sigh*
