Goodbye, My Friend

A special man died yesterday. I won’t identify him by name because he and his wife have been involved in missionary work in extremely dangerous parts of the world. Yesterday, he and his wife were hiking when he fell and hit his head. We know no other details at this time…only that he has died. I’ll call him JD, for John Doe.

JD was the ER Doctor during many of my emergency visits when I was struggling many years ago. I believe he was in the ER when I overdosed. He saved me…but more than just with medicine. He prayed for me. I once receive a hand written note thanking me for supporting his ministry and that he had Mr. Virgo and I in his daily personal prayer list….daily, for years. He always told me there was a special reason why God spared me. He knew He had great things in store for me.

JD has been in my prayers many times as well when he was off in foreign lands working in very, very sensitive areas. We still cannot speak of where he was to protect the other workers.

My heart is broken tonight. A good, good man has left us all too soon. His family are left behind to deal with this tragedy as best they can. If you are the praying sort, please send up prayers of comfort for his loved ones…and all who knew and loved him. He will truly be missed.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.”
