Getting Stuff Done

The buttonhole placket was so much easier to knit than I thought it would be.

I paid $4.36 for gas yesterday! It’s coming down. The supply chain issues are evening out and they are predicting prices on most goods will fall accordingly. The crazy housing market is cooling off and maybe someday young people will be able to buy that little house with the white picket fence. I don’t know. All I know is, when you live on a fixed income, you’ll take every break you can get!

I had the oil changed on the truck yesterday when I was in town. I also had the tires rotated. I never really bothered buying the lifetime warranty on tires till I retired and money needed to be stewarded better. To be honest, rotating your tires isn’t as big a deal when you live in Colorado. Most of the roads are straight and if your wheels are aligned properly, you don’t wear them out unevenly. Not so here in the twisty-turny state! When Daughter #1 visited last summer, she remarked on the weird speed limit signs out our two-lane blacktop. She said, “Mom, I couldn’t even get UP to 55 before the next turn came and said 20mph. I laughed and said, “Sweetie, those are just recommended speeds. Y’all do what you can around here.”

I was tickled to have the time to sit at the garage while they worked on my truck. It gave me some solid time to work on Big’s sweater. And…drumroll please…I got it done! Well, the knitting part is done. Now I have to weave in five million tails from where I joined yarns. This bulky yarn only had around a hundred yards of yarn per skein. So every two inches or so, there is a join. And this particular yarn is very slippery. I have to weave in the ends, then anchor them with a needle and thread to keep them from slipping out. Very time consuming, but it’s going to be beautiful when I’m done!

Mr. FixIt also had a laundry list of things to do yesterday, and rather than sit at the garage with me, he drove in separately. He brought home tomatoes from the garden in town and they are SO yummy! Supper was a ham sandwich with thick slices of tomato, salt & pepper, and a slathering of Duke’s Mayonnaise on whole wheat bread. Yummmmmmm!

We need to change the actuator on the lift for the Big Birdhouse today because tomorrow…we camp and get to see most of the Colorado family!!! I cannot wait!
