Getting Organized

I love the cheerful prints from Ree Drummond’s Prairie Woman collection. I tried to find her melamine plates that I love and they only had one at our Walmart. Maybe I’ll have better luck online. I did find the sheets and pillowcases, though!

Imagine a hotel room that’s less than 150 square feet. You don’t really have a closet…but there’s space under the bed and under the benches in the dinette. There are several small cabinets and cubbyholes where you can stash things. But you have to be smart and plan things out down to the last square inch. Now…put a couple of wheels on it, add hot and cold running water with a shower and toilet and the three water tanks that are required for proper use…hook it to your bumper…and you can go just about anywhere with everything you need.

A closeup of the quilt I made…finally being put to use!

I went shopped yesterday afternoon. I took my measurements with me and carefully looked around till I found exactly what I wanted for storage. I found some clear Rubbermaid containers with air tight seals. The two large ones hold utensils and lighters and spices. The two medium ones hold silverware and hot cocoa packets. The two small ones hold sweetener and tea bags. There are four cloth baskets…two for each of us. One holds shoes. The other holds clothes. We each have a plastic bin the size of a shoe box with clips on each end that hold the lid tight. That’s for medication and toiletries.

The salt & papper shakers that started the ball rolling on the decor for the new camper.

The cabinet to the right of the microwave holds food items: chips, cookies, extra bottles of water. The cabinet under the sink has a trash can, aluminum foil, trash bags, dish soap, paper towels, the packet of manuals that go with the camper, and a cab fresh that absorbs moisture. The storage under the benches is quite roomy. One side holds extra blankets and the pots and pans. The other side has a slow cooker, and electric skillet, Mr. FixIt’s DVD player, and a battery powered lantern.

I bought this darling tablecloth at Happy Jim’s Trading Post for $5!

There is a small closet on my side of the bed for my lap desk, iPad, and a couple of soft fleecy blankets that I like to sleep with. We each have a plug-in surge protected device that acts like a power strip but without the cord. It has two USB charging ports on it as well. There is a long cabinet above the bed that will hold the cloth baskets and a couple of sweatshirts.

We have a wonderful, fat toad that hangs out around our door waiting for an errant moth!

I bought a pot roast and will put it in the crock pot tomorrow and that will give us several meals. We’ll roast hotdogs for lunch and have bacon and eggs for breakfasts. We’ll sit by the river. I’ll knit. Mr. FixIt will throw in a line and maybe catch a little something. We won’t eat anything out of the Ohio River, but it’s still fun to go fishing.

Who’s up for a little adventure! Let’s go!!!

  3. We just returned from our first real trip with our camper. Two old people and a doggie. We went to Door county and had a lovely week. I admire how organized you are.
