Finding Peace in the Rush

I really picked the right time to start a “lifestyle change”…There’s so much freshness out there!

I’m reading a devotional by John Mark Comer about eliminating “hurry” from our lives. He posits that we get our schedules so jam packed that we have to rush faster and faster to get things done. When that happens, you have less time for love, joy, and peace. We all need more of all three and we cheat ourselves when we try to cram so much into our lives.

I enjoyed a lazy start to my day and sat in the morning sunshine…sipping on my mushroom coffee. After breakfast, I sat down at the desk in the office and started working on the schedule for the Colorado trip. Normally, I would have had this all planned out and scheduled at least two months ago, but…well, the shop and the quilt and the impromptu camping trips and SPRING! I had to force myself to sit down and knock as much of it out as I could.

Before I did anything, I asked God to pave the way for me and make it easy to find campsites. We’re traveling over the 4th of July weekend! I opened the RV Life site and got to work. I had to laugh because just about every campground I looked at had ONE site left and it was exactly what I needed! It still wasn’t a fast process as I was also learning the ins and outs of a new program. I got as far as the trip from Denver home so there are only four or five more reservations to go and that trip will be all set.

You know, it’s a lot faster to fly. And probably a lot cheaper. But I just don’t have the chops for flying anymore. Watching all those stories of airlines messing up their schedules and leaving people stranded for days…hearing horror stories of lost luggage and brutally scaled back amenities…and watching grown adults slugging flight attendants and other passengers? Yeah….I think I’ll pass. I love our little camper and I love to drive and I love my navigator so I’m good!

Before I sat down to do all this stuff, I had to make a quick run into town to pick something up at the post office. When I walked in, there were a couple of ladies standing in front of the door catching up…as folks are wont to do in a small town. I pardoned myself as I slipped in the door and check my PO Box. There was a slip announcing the arrival of something I was waiting for. As the ladies continued to chat, I carefully opened the box and pulled out the contents. I can’t divulge what it is yet because it’s a surprise for one of my loved ones. But when I saw it…I gasped out loud. It was even more beautiful that I anticipated and I was just thrilled by the quality.

The ladies noticed I had a pretty and came over to ooh and ahh. Pretty soon it was two of us and we continued to chat for quite some time. We finally exchanged numbers and became Facebook friends right away. Have you ever met someone who you just click with? You know right away that you’re going to be fast friends and it just tickles you pink? Yep…it was just like that. I love it. We can never have too many friends, can we? And…she invited us to her church.

*smile*

God’s been pretty busy winking at me this week!

Setting up the schedule for the cross country trip means figuring out how far to drive every day so we don’t arrive in Denver dog-tired. I love a good road trip so making all these reservations at campsites reminds me…campers get more smiles per gallon!
