Finding Peace in Change

What an amazing weekend this has been! My sweet brother was the center of the universe yesterday at his party. He sat at the head of the table and “held court”. We had a great meal that Daughter #1 fixed. Hubby #2 and his wife were there as well as his younger sister and her husband. They will forever be family and it was just such a beautiful thing to watch.

There was a time when I would never have believed we could all sit in the same room and be civil. Well, certain ones anyway. Divorce is never an easy thing. But time heals and distance helps the heart grow when division sets you on different courses. Besides, the attention was on my brother…not on any of us.

Still, the beauty of the day was not lost on me. On so many levels.

We stopped on the way to the party and got him some new clothes so he was looking pretty dapper by the time the guests arrived. My brother is so much more frail than he was two years ago…hence the change to more assistance. The men jumped in and helped him up and down the stairs. The women doted on him and brought him food and drinks. Hubby #2’s wife and my Mr. FixIt both took turns playing UNO with him.

He beamed as we sang Happy Birthday to him. He said hello on a video to the WV family who couldn’t be there.

And, as everyone got up to say their goodbyes, my Bubby looked around at this amazing family of ours and said…

“I love every one of you.”

I’d say this has been a 100% bonafide bang up 70th birthday party for the best brother on the planet! Today we head back to Denver so I won’t see my brother again till May of 2022. Like I said yesterday…it’s been an incredibly emotion packed weekend, but it’s been so wonderful to be with my beloveds.

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”
