Exploring

Wild horse

Oh, my gosh…what a gorgeous day it was yesterday on the Outer Banks! Sunny and 73, it was filled with sun, sand, and surf. We headed to the north end of the island where you can drive out on the beach for miles. There are wild horses up there and although we seemed to drive forever, we only saw two. It was stunning (and a little nerve-wracking) driving so close to the thunderous waves. Mr. FixIt has told me stories about people getting stuck in the sand and I was sure we would, but he is an excellent driver, has done it many times, and I trust him completely. The nice weather drew crowds to the beach and no one had a bit of trouble.

As we headed south back to the condo, we stopped at the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the Wildlife Education Center. We returned by early afternoon, packed a picnic supper, and headed for the beach. We sat and nibbled on various cheese we had purchased the day before and watched the waves as the tide came in. Finally, a thunderstorm blew in and we made it back to the condo just before the skies opened. Thunder crashed for a good half hour. I took advantage and had a nap. When I awoke, the sun was just a half hour away from setting so we drove over to the sound. The storm left enough clouds for a semi decent show of color. After the sun went down, we drove around for a while and got an ice cream. It was another perfect day in North Carolina.

I believe I could live down south…maybe even a little further south, like South Carolina. It would be nice to be within an easy drive to the beach and have less snow and cold to contend with. I don’t think I could do Florida full time. It’s entirely too hot in the summer. Two more beautiful days here! ❤️

  1. Come on down to mid state SC and enjoy being just a few hours from the beautiful beaches and just a few hours from the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains! Best of both worlds…God’s country!

  2. Loved this post. We have talked about selling-out and moving to the “South” when the spouse retires, too. He has developed some health issues that may require us to be close to a good teaching and research hospital and several are located in both North and South Carolina.

  3. I know you said no Fl, but we love st Augustine for the same reason. It’s beautiful, fullOf so much history , we get 4 seasons and we live 6 mi to the ocean., 2 hours any direction we can be anywhere . Best of all we’re on a small lake so it’s very peaceful ????

  4. Thanks for the pictures this morning! I truly miss the ?. The pictures take me back to some great times there. You made my day.

  5. After my husband died I bought a condo in south FL on the gulf side. Great in the winter, but way too hot for me in the summer. Finally moved a little north to Middle GA and I love it! Winters are mild ( I am from IN and PA) and almost no cold weather. Just how I like it! I have a change in seasons and mild weather. I love the south ?
