Every Year…It’s the Same Thing!

Ok, those of you have followed me oh, these many years know what happens every single year at tax time. I wait till the last week, then I sit down to do the taxes and the doggone computer decides it needs to choose THAT EXACT MOMENT to download thirty-seven updates plus a scan of the hard drive, then there’s an error downloading something and you’re on hold with tech support for three years and the whole thing makes me wonder why on EARTH I stopped drinking! Ok…that may be a small exaggeration…but still, all day on the computer and I was no further getting the taxes done than when I started. Except now my computer has every shiny new update created by mankind!

You might say…why don’t you do the updates ahead of time? At which point I would politely reply, “I did! About three or four weeks ago, I downloaded all my transactions from my bank and balanced the account….the first time I’ve done THAT in years! I also updated my security software and scanned my hard drive and cleaned the trash off it and defragged it. I was ready! But, nooooooooooo! Microsoft had to release a zillion new updates right at tax time. I’m blaming them. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

One thing I did while I watched the little hamster wheel turn on my computer screen was…knit. I figured if I had to be close by to hit “yes, I want this program to change my hard drive”, I might as well get something productive done. And it’s the darnedest thing…I didn’t have a bit of trouble with the pattern. I figured I’d be ripping out every other row. I think God took pity on me and let at least one thing go smoothly yesterday!

As I was checking my calendar, when I discovered…to my great dismay…that May 12th is TOMORROW! The open house at the farm is tomorrow at 4:00. OMGosh! I have SO much to do to get the house in the shape I want it to be. So, the taxes get moved to the back burner, again. And today I will work my hiney off and get this place ship shape!

I took a break in the afternoon and took a walkabout. The iris along the driveway have started to bloom. It was a cool day and the sun popped out every now and then. If West Virginia would stay 74 degrees year round, I’d be a happy girl. But before we know it, we will go from meat locker to microwave and it will be so sticky hot. I’ll enjoy this as long as I can!

“then I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.”

Leviticus 26:4 ESV
