You’ve heard me refer to a “big project” I’ve been involved with over the last year and the time has come for the big reveal. It all started when my dear friends, Janine Pettit and Gail Bable, were having an impromptu “slumber party”. Janine was driving cross country and called to say she was headed to Gail’s in Ohio to spend the night. I was the same distance away on the opposite side so I threw some things in a bag, kissed Mr. FixIt on the forehead and off I went.
After supper, we were sitting around drinking tea and knitting when Janine said she had something she wanted to talk to us about. She had a vision for Girl Camper…the website that accompanies her Podcast. She told us all about it and we started throwing ideas around. It’s been a lot of work and a whole lot of fun over the last year and now all the work has paid off!
I am now wearing even MORE hats!
There is an all new Girl Camper website! It has so many new features. You can listen to Podcasts. You can read Girl Camper Stories. There is a section called Girl Camper Wisdom and another that features Experts. We have a new Food Editor…Kate Dunbar, the Campground Gourmet! And…Janine is introducing “Girl Camper Guides”. Each state on the map colored red has a Guide. Gail and I are sharing Ohio and West Virginia. Gail writes from her vast experience as a lifelong camper, mother of ten, and camp host extraordinaire! I am writing for Girl Camper Moments. We will have camping and educational events and Meet and Greets in the coming year. And…I am the RPod Ambassador for the Annual Girl Camper Charity Raffle!

He ain’t a girl, but Tom Stienstra, award-winning outdoor writer and SF Chronicle columnist (at sfgate.com) has written 21 updated editions of his California Camping Guide to all California campgrounds, public and private. He covers other Western states as well. He updates for any changes, and provides voluminous descriptions of amenities, nearby outdoor recreational details, typical weather, you-name-it. His Twitter feed posts weather-related road closures, seasonal road opening dates, etc. And he’s a big teddy bear DOG lover, and a down-to-earth writer. He might have some girl camper Calif contacts.
