Day Four was a Doozy!

I woke up at 5:30 yesterday morning and couldn’t get back to sleep. I couldn’t get the camper together because quiet hours last till 7:00 and besides…it’s the weekend. There’s nothing worse than sleeping soundly in your wonderful camper, only to hear the person next door lifting their jacks and clunking around. I waited till 7:30 then I tried to be as quiet as I could. People were already moving around, so I hope I didn’t disturb them too much.

I got on the road about 8:30. I checked the road reports and the weather and was concerned to see the conditions deteriorating in western Nebraska throughout the day and into the night. Strong winds, hail, and severe thunderstorms were predicted. As I’ve told you, this camper can’t go up or down in strong winds, so I told Mr. FixIt I was going to have to play it by ear as I got closer.

About the last fifty to seventy-five miles were brutal. The winds were blowing so strong straight at me that it was making my truck gear down! I’ve never experienced that before. At first, I was afraid something was wrong with my truck, then I figured it out. There was no way I could camp at Lake McConaughy, which was disappointing.

I pulled into the Walmart gas station in Ogallala and plugged my son-in-law’s mom’s address in the GPS to see how much further it was. It was only another 200-some miles…about 3.5 hours of driving. It was 1:30 (Mountain Time) and I would much rather be with family than stay in a hotel. So, I made the executive decision to just drive the rest of the way. That made 470 miles the first day, 333 the second, and 530 the third! I didn’t HAVE to put my camper up…I could have stayed in the house. But I so love having my own little bed and play house!

And now…I’m whupped. I need to acclimate slowly to the altitude and not get overheated. It was 90 degrees when I got here yesterday. I’ll sleep in, sip on my electrolytes, and be a happy little camper. I thanked God repeatedly for the travel mercies. Let me thank you for all your prayers and words of encouragement. It was a fun drive!

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

“So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.”
