Day 59: Cranking It Up a Notch

This feels good…this level of busy. It’s not the kind of busy that you do to avoid dealing with something like grief. I’ve done that kind of busy. This is goal oriented, let’s-get-something-done-around-here busy. My poor husband. We’ve spent the better part of the last three months sitting in our recliners binge-watching the entire seven years of West Wing. We finished it on Monday. I swear, we looked at each other with a hint of sadness and said, “Now what?”  Poor guy didn’t know what hit him…out came “the list”.

We have projects that need doing. And invariably, we just get into one when something else pops up and steals our attention. A couple of weeks ago, Mr. FixIt ran over something out in the field and it lodged in the mower deck. He had to stop and move the blades to get it out. It turned out to be a piece of metal. He showed it to me later and we finally figured out it was a piece of the mower itself.

We got down under the mower and found the sway bar that holds the mower deck steady was dangling down. That’s not good. He went inside and looked up the part and ordered a new one. It arrived Monday…without the bolts to attach it. So, he went back out and got underneath there to find out what kind of bolts he needed and how to attach it. That’s when he discovered the frame is broken completely through on one side. That REALLY isn’t good.

My very patient husband sat on hold with the Husqvarna service department for forty-five minutes yesterday before he gave up. We had to get out to the farm and mow. (Grandma’s rhododendron is starting to bloom!) While we took turns mowing, he called a local dealer and explained what happened and they said to just bring it in. It’s still under warranty, thank goodness. Now we have to get a crack on the mower deck of our old riding mower welded so we can get out there and mow here at the Ponderosa. Time’s a wastin’ and the grass is growing…fast!

While the Mister was figuring out the tractor, I made a half gallon or so of soy milk and turned it into tofu. I wanted to do a practice run before I document it here. We’ll have it for supper tonight. I need to really make this taste great…because my husband has had it before and didn’t like it. I’m hoping it was just the preparation he didn’t like. And, he’s never had homemade tofu. It tastes totally different than the store bought variety.

This kind of busy is good. It’s the kind that leaves you with tired muscles and sense of accomplishment. It’s honest to goodness work and there’s not a thing wrong with that.

❤️

“For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.”
