Day 248: Covid…Worse Than Glitter

Are you crafty? Have you ever worked with glitter? If you have, then you know you cannot work with glitter indoors without finding it in every crevice of your home…for the rest of eternity. It is simply impossible to get rid of.

Remember those body washes and facial scrubbers with those little tiny micro beads in them? Entire city water systems were shut down in an attempt to remove the sediment left behind that consisted of…tiny micro beads.

Ever try to eat a meal in a house full of pets without finding hair in your food? Ever have a coffee filter collapse in the pot and end up with grounds floating in your cup and sediment in the bottom? Ever go to the beach and have sand end up in places where you definitely wouldn’t put an emery board?

All those things are plenty big enough to see with the naked eye and you still can’t avoid them.

What if you could SEE the Covid-19 virus???

What if you walked into a shop or restaurant and these big orbs were floating around…hovering over people…spewing out of their mouths when they laughed? What if you went into church and the choir and the people sitting beside you and behind you started singing and clouds of spiky balls of virus came at you and clung to your hair and your clothes and your skin? What if, when you inhaled to sing the next refrain, those sticky spiky balls drew into your mouth and nose and lodged in the tiny little air sacs in your lungs?

And, what if…after church or after being at the store…you stopped to check on your elderly neighbor or your niece with the new baby and you snuggled in for a nice hug and a kiss on the cheek? Or maybe you went to your book club or your grandkid’s swim meet?

What if there was something so simple you could do to keep these spiky basketballs from sticking in your lungs or the lungs of those you love? Until there’s some way of knowing who will get really sick and who will just feel kinda puny, there’s no way of knowing the effect that visit may have.

There are an awful lot of people who think Covid is nothing…it’s overblown…we’re turning a corner. Well, we may be “turning a corner” but it’s not to any street we want to go down…of that I am certain. The numbers are rising exponentially.

A friend shared a post with me yesterday. The person posting is an ICU nurse. He’s been working long, hard days. He says it is so horrifying to hear someone screaming because they can’t catch their breath. He says there are many….far TOO many who scream and say, “It can’t be Covid! Covid isn’t real! There has to be something wrong with me and you aren’t finding it!!! You have to find out what’s really wrong with me!” He says the screaming only stops when they get intubated.

It isn’t politics.

Let me say that again.

Covid isn’t political.

It’s a virus.

It is real.

It can be deadly…like Russian roulette.

This is science.

Thanksgiving is coming fast. We have elected to not gather at our house this year. We hate that…we really do. But we have family members with underlying medical conditions. And I will do everything in my power to keep my family safe and healthy.

Please….please….please….do everything you can to help reel this pandemic in and gain some sort of control. The vaccines are coming, but in the meantime, we are forced indoors because of the weather. That close contact is the same as using a leaf blower on a pile of glitter…it’s going to contaminate everything and everybody.

I know you’re tired of this. I know you want this to be over with. I know you want everything to get back to normal. So do I.

Let’s be good Americans! Let’s band together and kick Covid to the curb! Let’s be patriots and look out for each other!!! Let’s take some pride in ourselves and be the leaders we are meant to be! Let’s be encouragers! Let’s not scold the non-maskers. Let’s encourage them. Let’s thank those who are wearing masks so they know they are appreciated. And do it in front of non-maskers. Keep some extra masks in a ziplock baggie to offer to those who may not have one.

Let’s get this done so we can put this horrible event behind us and bring as many people through it as we can.

We know what to do!!!

We can do this, America!

?

“This is why you must encourage and help each other, just as you are already doing.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11 CEV
