Day 240: Nothin’ But Blue Skies

I’m in transition. It’s not quite winter, not quite fall…and it feels a little like summer. We went out midday and started mowing. I really thought it was behind us, but you could definitely tell after the first swath..it needed cutting again. At this time of year, I always hope it’s the last mowing of the season and…hopefully…this was it. As I was coming up through the near field, I had to stop and take a picture. The sky was absolutely perfect, the temperature was 78, and the trees beyond the two-lane out front still have some color clinging to the crowns of the trees. It was the kind of beautiful that takes your breath away.

We still have some more things to take care of before the house is buttoned up for winter. There is an old television antenna at the end of the house, just outside our bedroom window. Old wild grape vines have take over and the antenna is covered. We need to get those vines torn down as well as remove the upright antenna support to keep them from ruining the roof and soffits. The corners of the soffits have already been pulled down a little and critters (I’m thinking chipmunks and squirrels) find their way into the attic and scurry around up there. Fortunately, it was a warm day when the guys repaired those corners because we aren’t having anything trapped up there. They must have gone out exploring for the day. They’ll just have to find somewhere else to hole up for the winter instead of running around over my head!

I’m giving a Skype interview this morning with WSAZ this morning…talking about meal preparation when traveling in an RV and what things to pack. That should be fun! I really love the gals who work for this station. I recorded a segment with them last fall when I was towing the Girl Camper Raffle Trailer last fall and they were so much fun to work with. I’ll attach a clip when it’s posted.

I came so close to going to see a Class C motor home yesterday. It looks like it’s in great shape and it has low miles for it’s age. However, it’s a 1990. Thirty years is a long life for an RV. One of the reasons I didn’t get a motor home in the beginning was the possibility of two engines breaking down since you have to tow a small vehicle behind you. If you don’t have a “toad”, you either have to pack everything up and take your RV to town with you if you need to make a trip for supplies, or you stay at the campsite all the time. So, I let my better angels talk me out of even looking at it. That way I won’t even be tempted.

When did I get to be such a grownup?
