Day 223: Takin’ Care of Business

Foggy Bottom on the Ponderosa

Yesterday was a day of pure satisfaction. I was up at 6:00am to head into town for my yearly mammogram. I had a lumpectomy done a couple of years ago so it’s really important to stay on top of that. I was amazed to have the results by the time I got back home…normal! When I got home, Mr. FixIt was just getting his day started. As soon as breakfast was done, we were off to the County Court House to vote early in person. As I predicted, we are the smallest and least populated state, so there were only two people in front of us. They had us seated on benches with several feet between us. Everyone wore a mask. I’m glad we got there when we did because the line went out the door by the time we left.

Fog Rising on the Ponderosa…8:30am

Mr. FixIt had to go to town in the afternoon to let a repairman into his friend’s house while they are away. While he was gone, I mowed the five acres here at the Ponderosa. The sun was going down over the far hill and the trees were literally glowing gold. I kept stopping the mower to pull out my camera and snap some photos. Mr. FixIt came home with a sandwich for my supper. I rode the tractor out into the field and stopped there to eat among the shower of leaves. It was so beautiful and peaceful!

Late Afternoon…the Long Shadows Taking Over

I have to go to the DMV today. Mr. FixIt stuck my 3-year camper sticker on his license plate by mistake so I need to replace it. Then I’m meeting my late cousin’s wife for a visit. She lives in Tennessee so I don’t get to see her nearly often enough. I’m really looking forward to a little socially distanced conversation. Oh, and by the way…our Covid tests were negative…thank God. I was sure they were, but I’ve had a little bit of a sore throat since we got home from the beach and of course, that is worrisome given what’s going on.

I must say, felt such a sense of relief to have voted and done my civic duty. I know I tried to stay out of the boxing ring when it came to politics this season, but I certainly wasn’t always successful. I do want to say, no matter the outcome, I’m really praying for our country to come together and work for the greater good…lifting each other up. And, if I have offended any of you, I hope you will forgive me. This election cycle has the been the most contentious I’ve known since the ‘60s and I wasn’t always my best self.

I hope you get a chance to get outside and enjoy God’s beauty around you today. I know it snowed in the upper Midwest, but we are enjoying a little Indian Summer here in West Virginia with a high of 80 degrees.

“then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and olive oil.”
