Dance the Night Away

I saw five million people I know at Strawberry Days last night. The locals always come out on Friday night. The food is fresh, the arts & crafts aren’t picked over, the band is always awesome, and…well, it’s Friday and it’s fun. It’s THE place to see and be seen!

I hit town at about 12:30 and headed straight for SWEET COLORADOUGH and interviewed the owner for The Coffee House Locator blog. I asked what his best selling drink was and he said probably a “Dirty Hippy”. Great! I ordered one and my barista, Val, set right to it. It’s espresso, spicy chai, and mocha. It was pretty darned tasty. I also had a croissant donut with strawberry frosting. Yummmm!

I have a dear friend who has a medical condition that affects her ability to walk. I’ve known KD since 1986 or ’87. She is extremely active and skis every winter. Instead of giving up and using a wheelchair, she uses a Segway. If you don’t know what that is, Google it. She “walks”, “hikes”, and coolest of all…she DANCES! I ran into her at the park last night and we danced the night away. She’s cute as a bug and guys were hitting on her right and left. People were walking by and smiling and giving her high fives. I love this gal so much…she’s SUCH an inspiration to me. I’m proud of her for being totally awesome and not letting anything hold her back from living a full life.

The neat thing about using a Segway is, even though she is resting her tush on something similar to a barstool, she stands in front of you at eye level. After you’ve been around her for a few minutes, you don’t even see the Segway anymore. You just see a beautiful, active woman. You don’t see her disability. It’s like she doesn’t even HAVE one. I love that. It goes a long way in promoting self confidence. I’d love to see more people using Segways instead of wheelchairs if they are able to. I think it vastly improves the quality of life.

Today is the parade!

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28
