Country Living Fair – Day 1

Shiny vintage camper
“Freckles has the cutest little camper as a prop in their booth.”

“You prepare a table before me…”  Psalm 23:5 NIV

OMGosh! It was SO hot yesterday at the fair. The ground was saturated from the storms last weekend and with the heat baking down on all that damp earth, it was like sitting in a sauna. Fortunately, we had an EZUp and battery powered fans, and there was a bit of a breeze most of the day. If I walked around anywhere, I used an umbrella and a wide brimmed hat and that helped a lot.

Country Living Fair
“Fun fencing surrounding a booth full of baskets and pumpkins.”

The fair didn’t seem quite as busy the first day as it has in years past. Some vendors attributed that to the heat. Others to the fact they added a spring Country Living Fair in Columbus this year. They were worried maybe that kind of divided our audience. I do know the booth rent is pretty steep for an event like this so I hope the vendors do well and the show continues to be a success.

Light fixture
“LOVED this light fixture made from an old pulley and Edison-style bulbs.”

We each took turns wandering around the booths yesterday. We also had our favorite food vendors staked out. For breakfast, there was Miss Perolee’s Blackberry Cobbler and lunch was from Sweet Carrots…baked Mac ‘n Cheese with Pulled Pork on top drizzled with a little Smoky BBQ Sauce. Yummmm!

Porch swing and quilted pillows
“Nothing more cozy than a chippy-white porch swing filled with pillows made from vintage quilts.”

Here are some of my favorite items from my meandering. I only covered half the fair. It’s all a bit overwhelming. It would truly take three days to walk through and see everything…hence, it is a three day festival. But, when you are working the fair, you don’t have that kind of time. I really enjoy visiting with the people who stop to see the campers. Our glamped up tent was a big hit! I’ll walk the other half tomorrow and get more pictures. It’s supposed to be another hot one but we have an extra person helping tomorrow. Let’s hope it’s really busy! Come see us!

Crocks
“Crocks are some of my favorite collectibles, although I prefer blue ones. I haven’t found any…yet!”
Pillows
“A row of bold red plaid pillows make a striking display at Country Living Fair.”
Signs
“Signs are always sought-after decorator items at these fairs.”
Country Living Fair
“Different textures and materials add visual interest to this display.”
Scrub boards
“There’s something lovely about worn utilitarian objects that both evoke simpler times, yet remind us how much easier life is with modern conveniences.”
pressboard animal cutouts
“I remember these pressboard cutouts from elementary school.”

  1. Now I know where all of the tin Farmhouse signs at Cracker Barrel went last year! People bought them to resell! I went after payday to ours and the lady said people were buying them by the dozen!

  2. I’m an SOTF sister without a camper (yet) but a yurt sure would be a great alternative!
Welcome home and thanks for the chance!

  3. Hi Ginny, I just wanted to thank you for your reassuring words about my up coming “Madden Voyage” this week to a Sisters on the Fly gathering in Ohio. Even though our conversation was brief I’m so glad that I had the opportunity the meet you. I obviously found your blog and should have gotten you autographer! Your a celebrity, and I didn’t know, but I now know and I look forward to following it. Congrats on your new beginnings and safe travels.
