Conversations With God

The deadnettle is blooming by the back door.

Now that the weather is warming up, we’re getting some little old jobs done here at Marshmallow Ranch. Mr. FixIt painted the hallway and he’s been working on the wood trim and baseboards. The door of the closet at the end of the hall tends to drag across the carpet, so he took it off the hinges yesterday and we carried it outside. He got the table saw out to cut about a quarter of an inch off the bottom.

He was so careful, measuring and putting tape on the line so the cut would be clean. I held the door carefully for him while he pushed it through the saw. When he took the tape off, it was perfect! No splintering and we were really proud of it. He painted the door on both sides and let it dry before we carried it back in the house, only to find out…

We cut the top off and not the bottom! Argh!

(I think I heard him say the “D” word!)

I know what you’re thinking… “Can’t you just flip the door upside down?” I found out the answer to that question and it’s “No!” The door knobs on doors are not right in the center. So if you flip it, the knob is going to be too high. The easiest thing is to move the hinges on the door to adjust the position. It’s not a hard problem to fix…it’s just not what you want to do…making an easy job harder. I know he felt really bad but neither one of us caught the error till it was too late. Ahhhh…another lesson learned.

I didn’t make it to the sewing machine yesterday. I had a few things to do on the computer and one thing led to another, taking me down the rabbit hole of possibilities. I found some darling fonts and cute graphics and elements to incorporate in designs. If you’re really careful, you can find these without spending a lot of money for them. After I downloaded them, I designed some cute T-Shirts for moms.

Now that it’s not so bitter cold outside, I can start working at my desk in my studio downstairs. Then I can stay focused and set a timer to stay on task. Time spent on the shop. Time spent working on the quilt. And a little time spent knitting with a cup of tea…just for me. It’s easy to throw yourself into your work of the day and forget to take a breath. We get so caught up with our daily lives…with our stuff…that we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves through God’s provision. His Word. His Caring. His Love for us. His Gifts that he gave us.

I study the Word at night. When I take a break, I knit conversations with God.

““If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.”
