Christmas in January

”Smoke on the Water” by Sue Lilly

I was up early when the sun hit the trees on the far ridge with a golden glow. A single pine tree provided a stark contrast to the bright, sunny trees. It wasn’t long till the sky became more overcast. We didn’t get rain for the first time in days and it was really warm. I worked in the studio for a couple hours and didn’t accomplish much. I started making a baby and the yarn wasn’t right. It was way too light for the project. I’ll save it for something else.

I was working with a different yarn, but I heard Mr. FixIt up rummaging around so I stopped and came up to fix breakfast. When I came upstairs, he was already cooking oatmeal…his specialty. He put fresh blueberries in it for me. He’s such a sweetie. I sat in the Big Red Chair and put babies together till it was time to start cleaning.

Mr. FixIt and I split up the duties. He’s a doll…he cleans the bathrooms! He is definitely a keeper! I was going to make cinnamon rolls to go with the chili for our family gathering, but Mr. FixIt’s birthday is next week so I told him I’d make him whatever he wanted…a cake or a pie. It took me ten minutes to get him to tell me what he really wanted instead of what he thought everyone else would want or what would be easier for me to make. He’s the most selfless person I know. We finally settled on pies…an apple and a peach. So I’ll be up bright and early baking pies and then I can put the pork roast in the oven.

The family is coming over at 1:00 and I’m really excited to see them! We get stuck out here in the country and become hermits in the winter so it will be nice to have company and see the kids. Mr. FixIt bowls tomorrow night then we have a light week ahead. I mean…hear we are nearly at the end of January already. We will be mowing again before we know it so I need to step up my game and get more done before I won’t have the time to.

As I was writing this last night, one of my high school friends read my post from yesterday. She lives along the river and saw the fog rolling in. She ran up to Fort Boreman Park and caught a beautiful photo of the “smoke on the water” and gave me permission to use it today. We live in such a beautiful and picturesque place, don’t we?
