Changing Seasons

Mr. FixIt and I cleaned house this weekend because my stepson and his family were coming over. Mr. FixIt II had a birthday last month and we were all really busy, so yesterday was the day to celebrate. We ordered pizza so there wasn’t a lot of fuss and heat being generated in the kitchen. The boys went out and dug post holes for the new steps and railing we’re putting in for the pool deck. We are getting older and balance is becoming a concern, so it’s time to have something to hang onto if needed.

As with many DIY projects, this one took a turn when the post hole digger hit the drain pipe for the downspout so now we need to repair that before we can move forward. It’s always something. First the oven mess…now this. I think we need to slow down and draw our plans out to think everything through before we just fly by the seat of our pants with these things. The next big project is get roofs on these two houses before winter.

When the kids left, Mr. FixIt checked in with his bowling buddy and found out their first meeting was in thirty minutes! So, off he went and I settled in to work on this new sweater. Oh, I really love this yarn. I think I’d like to have it in a dozen different colors! It knits up really fast and is light as a feather.

I went across town to get a little bite of ice cream and sat by the river. The locusts were calling. The river was high and muddy. We’ve had tons of rain the last couple of weeks. The leaves are changing already. Way too early. I believe it’s from the more extreme weather we’ve been having. Lots of rain. Lots of heat. Sitting there watching the golden light slicing through the leaves and hearing the whir of the insects took me back to my childhood. This is the time of year when we start thinking about heading back to school and I can distinctly remember what that felt like as a kid. A combination of exciting anticipation and total dread. New clothes, new notebooks, seeing friends. All good. But the end of those carefree days of summer? So sad.

So much to be done before the snow flies!

Ahhhhh….farm life!
