Changing Horses in the Middle of the Stream!

Well, one must always be prepared for any eventuality. When I arrived at the campground on Wednesday, there was only one campsite open so I took it. The next morning we moved because the sycamore was shedding all over us. We managed to snag a prime river site and according to the computer it was first come, first served till Monday night. I paid for three nights so I ran it by the camp host, just to be sure. She looked at the same thing I was looking at and it said, “FF”…first come, first served. She said it was fine to move and we settled in for two more nights.

To be honest, neither one of us slept well on Thursday night because the tugboats push barges up and down the river…24/7. They are not fast, and their engines are loud and deep. They reverberate in your bones. I was sound asleep when the first one came through. It took a while to get back to sleep and then the next one came. This one was waiting for traffic so it hovered in one place for about twenty minutes…right in front of our camper. The first time this ever happened to me…years ago…it was really cool to watch. This time? Not so much!

Still, we had a beautiful day yesterday. I went for a long walk while Mr. FixIt fished. I sat with him for quite some time when I got back, then we decided to go for a drive and check out Hensler’s Market in St. Marys. They have beautiful flowers and produce, and tons of Amish products. After exploring some backroads, we headed back to the camper. I fixed a nice meal and we were just getting settled in for an evening of fishing when the camp host, Kris, called my name.

It appears, our site was NOT available yesterday as this very nice young man produced his phone showing he had reservations for the whole weekend. Leith Run is a hidden gem, but those in the know jump on the reservations as soon as they open up in January because they book up fast. He made his reservations in February. Obviously we were disappointed, but we were so grateful to have had the two days we got because we didn’t have reservations. It was a beautiful little camping trip, we met some super nice people, and home we headed.

I stopped in Williamstown to dump the tanks. Mr. FixIt went on to buy cat food before he headed home. I had the camper in place and ready to unhook when he pulled up. We were both so tired by the time we got everything set up here on Marshmallow Ranch in my own personal little campground. Tomorrow, I’ll post a bunch of pictures I took the last couple of days. We need to mow today. Dinner at the Former Mrs. FixIt’s with all the FixIt Family but one this evening. When it rains tomorrow, I’m finishing the quilt. The wedding is in two weeks!!!
