Carry Me Onward

My legs will be 63 in 10 weeks. They’ve carried me a long way, these gams of mine. A month ago I got winded climbing one flight of stairs. That was alarming. I have a lifestyle that demands a certain level of fitness if I want to keep it up. Yesterday, I walked uphill and pulled my personal best time in 3K. Then I went and walked the Quincy steps again. It was still a struggle, but every time I do something physical, it’s a little easier than the last time.

Mr. Virgo wasn’t into fitness. He was into survival. He walked 12-16 hours a day, 5 days a week. Sometimes 6 or 7 days a week. The last thing in the world he wanted to do was work out. And I was perfectly happy to sit at home, eat like a truck driver and keep gaining weight. Oh, seriously…I wasn’t huge. But I was unhealthy. I have another week before I take my “after” photos of the 24 Day Challenge with Advocare. I’m sure looking forward to it because I can feel the difference…not only in the way my clothes fit but also in my mood and my energy level.

We owe it to ourselves to be as healthy as we can be. It makes us more fun and interesting to be around. And it makes our life more interesting to ourselves. Today, I’m working upper body and giving my legs a break. Towanda!
