Blue Skies

I got out on my bike yesterday. I rode the area bike path east till I ran into flooding. I turned around and went west and found the same thing so I ended up circling around the reservoir, which was lovely. The altitude kicked my butt though! It’s been 9 months since I’ve lived here so it’ll take a little time to adjust.

Blue skies. It indicates more than good weather to me. Blue skies is an attitude…a state of mind. I sat and visited with family last night and they mentioned I’ve certainly had an interesting life, not all of it easy, yet I still keep truckin’ with a smile on my face. A lot of that is just my nature, I think. But I firmly believe you can change your life by changing your thinking. Whatever you put your attention on is going to receive the most energy. It’s not a big leap to figure out you can’t live a positive life with a negative mind. I know it isn’t always easy….but just making one little change can make a huge difference.

I got to spend time with my younger daughter last night. She has the unfortunate luck of inheriting my family’s tendency toward worry and anxiety. She is using a cognitive behavior modification technique to help her change that pattern. She wears a rubber band around her wrist and when she gets to stinkin’ thinkin’, she snaps the rubber band and forces herself to think something positive. She says it’s really helping her and I can see the difference in her. She has a lot more blue skies in her life now…and that makes me happy.

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

2 Corinthians 4:18
