Be Still

Shhhhh…listen. Do you hear that? It’s quiet. The rain has stopped! The breeze is gently rustling the palms outside my window and the sound of the surf is a constant roar. We are less than a hundred yards from the beach and this is the first time I’ve heard the waves crashing from this far away.

Awesome!

As I lay in my bed last night, I listened to those waves. I breathed in their goodness and raw strength. And I breathed out the hurts and the unexpressed…and unexpected…sadness of the last few days. I’m looking forward to doing more of the same today.

The ocean is the background music for stillness. Peace. The break in the steady din of rain pounding on the roof and walls of the camper came so suddenly that it took us by surprise. I’m looking forward to sleeping in in the morning. And maybe taking my coffee out on the beach. And maybe just taking it easy for the day. I’m on beach time. I can do that. I need to be still and watch the waves. I need to meditate. Thank you, God…for getting me through the storm safely. And for giving me the opportunity to be here.

“Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.”

Psalm 4:4 NIV
