Badlands

Yesterday was a LONG day. It took longer to get going in the morning because we were hooked up to sewer and water. Then we went to Wall Drug and dinked around in there for awhile. Had breakfast then headed for the Badlands. It was beautiful but looked very much like the western slope of Colorado where I’ve lived since 1986. My traveling companion was mesmerized, however. This is her first trip out west and she is really getting to see some beautiful country!

After the quickie tour of the Badlands, we hit the road, stopping in Mitchell, SD to see the Corn Palace. I had no idea what to expect except that the exterior changes from year to year. We were very disappointed because we thought we’d get some corn-on-the-cob or something! lol I had no idea it was a venue for concerts and basketball games.

We drove through rain in eastern South Dakota and finally stopped for the night in Sioux Falls at a convenient, clean campground (Tower Campground) but it backed right onto the interstate so there was quite a lot of traffic noise. We are 15.5 driving hours from home. It’s going to be a long couple of days.
