Back Home Again!

Here’s a funny story. Well, I guess it depends on who you’re talking to whether it was funny or not. The former Mrs. FixIt sent Mr. FixIt a picture today. It was a huge…and I mean HUGE possum in a live trap on her porch. She was trying to catch a pesky raccoon that has been eating her birdseed and getting into her plants up on the deck. Instead, she got Mongo the Marsupial! She tried to figure out what she was going to do and finally decided to just open the door and let it go.

Instead, it stayed in the cage. Would NOT come out! She had errands to run so she left the door open and left. When she returned, Mongo was still in the cage doing what possums do in the daytime. Snoozing. Well, she really wanted that thing back in the woods where it belongs so she got the water hose and started spraying it. That did the trick! That possum bolted right out of the cage and made a beeline……straight into her house!!!

I’m sure she nearly jumped out of her skin. She took off after Mongo into the house and he was nowhere to be seen. She had to go play hide and seek with a possum the size of a Buick! She finally found poor ol’ Mongo, scared to death and cowering in the far back corner of the closet in the spare room. He got as far as he could go and was trapped. The Former Mrs. FixIt spent the better part of an hour trying to get that thing out of there. She opened all the doors and set to evicting the possum.

About that time, Mr. FixIt was finished with the project he and his buddy were working on. He was only a couple of blocks away from her house, so he decided to stop by and see what she was doing with this guy. He saw the storm door propped open and thought, “What the heck?” So he stuck his head in the door.

“Hello? HELLO!”

“HELP! I’m back here!!!” she hollered.

Mr. FixIt followed her voice and, thinking something might have happened to her, hurried to the back of the house. There she was with a big stick, trying to prod the recalcitrant critter out of her closet. She had removed everything but he still wouldn’t move. She handed Mr. FixIt the stick and told him to press down on the possum when it came out.

He looked at the stick and he looked at the possum and he looked at the stick and said, “Don’t you have a laundry basket or something you can throw on top of it?”

Eureka! They got the basket over poor scared Mongo and scooted him down the hallway and out the door. When she lifted the basket, Mr. FixIt said that possum took off like a shot down the steps and into the woods. By this time they were both overheated and sweating buckets. They turned on the air conditioning and I’ll bet she’s still sitting there, trying to recuperate!

I, on the other hand, enjoyed a wonderful, quiet afternoon at home working on my shop. Someone commented the other day that I should put my pretty flower photos on note cards and sell them in my shop so that’s what I worked on yesterday. I hope to have them and the Comfort Blankets live in the shop tomorrow. But I also have to mow today, so…we’ll see. Oh, I lost 3.3 pounds at the farm this week!!! Wahoooo!
