An Abundance of Gratitude

A look down inside an old Poplar Tree stump. My PopPop planted this tree when I was almost a teenager. It got really big, really fast and when my elderly aunt lived here alone, she didn’t like the way it twisted and turned in the windstorms so she asked my uncle to cut it down. This is all that’s left and there is a young berry vine growing in it. I suppose a bird “planted” the seed and off it went!

First of all, I want to thank you all for your wonderful words of support and admiration for the quilt I made for our granddaughter’s wedding. You are right…it was truly a labor of love. I joked with the former Mrs. FixIt that I was going to need to start on her little sister’s quilt soon so I won’t be so pushed for time to get it done. She just finished her first year of college…so time’s a’wastin’!

I decided to stay at the farm for one more day because I have been neglecting my shop in order to finish the quilt. With this lightning fast internet, I was hoping to get boatloads done. Unfortunately, what I learned was…it wasn’t JUST the internet that is slow. I have had this laptop for several years and no matter how much I take off of it and move data to an external hard drive, I think it has just about reached the end of its usefulness. It really is impossible to get ahead if it takes you all day to do three little things. So, I’ll be watching for sales for a good laptop because we travel so much…I need something portable.

Once I finished with the three items I was designing, I started researching a little on our Colorado trip. I usually have this completely finished with an itinerary in a file, mapped out with directions, maps, phone and reservation numbers. I’m just way behind. I have no doubt it will all fall into place and work out perfectly. To be honest, I was concerned the debt ceiling wouldn’t get passed and our Social Security checks would be in jeopardy. I was a little hesitant to spend money preparing for a trip we might not be able to take. I’m thinking we have a little breathing room now and things will be ok…for now, anyway.

I was really frustrated yesterday when I got on the scale and it went up a pound and a half again. I have never weighed every day when I’ve followed a diet plan, but Noom is different. If it keeps frustrating me, I’m going to put the same weight every day and just weigh once a week. There is no need to risk quitting out of frustration. I’m enjoying the learning that come with this program. I’ve always been science and psychology oriented so this is definitely in my wheelhouse.

At the risk of putting some of you off, I am going to share something I made in my shop. I can’t remember if I shared the boots I made for Little for the big 16th birthday. Little loves dinosaurs and bright colors, so I designed these. They were a BIG hit and all the kids at school LOVED them. So much so that some of the teachers want me to design some for them as well! I finally got a chance to work on them yesterday so I’ll share a little. I love how they came out!

I tried to light the hot water heater yesterday. It started right up in December when I tried to light it, but there was something wrong with the exhaust vent so I turned it back off. No matter what I tried yesterday, it simply would NOT light. Mr. FixIt said he’ll try it when he comes out next time. I’ll be back out tomorrow to put some air in the well pump but he can’t make it out. He has two things he has to go to.

So, this morning I’ll pack up and head back home to my sweetheart. Absence really DOES make the heart grow fonder!

Positive Aging entails embracing all things with a sense of joy and hope. One of the things that I’ve been adamant about regarding my upcoming 70th Birthday is…NO negative self-talk. I am NOT old! I’ve got grey hair and I love it! Gone are the days of dying my hair and acrylic nails. I am what…and WHO…I am. Grey Hair…Don’t Care!!!
