All My Life is a Circle

We really don’t get much of a winter in West Virginia anymore. Global warming, climate change…whatever you want to call it…times, they are a’changin’. The forecasters are predicting snow here in the mountain state. I doubt it will amount to much, but Mr. FixIt plugged the snowblower battery into the charger…just in case. I sit here in my Big Red Chair, Echo by my side, watching the temperature fall and the little snowflake icon promising me it’s real.

It was lovely to stay home all day. It was Mr. FixIt’s turn to make breakfast. His specialty is oatmeal with the perfect touch of vanilla, butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. He topped mine with blueberries. SO yummy! It might just as well be Groundhog Day…the movie…as every day here is much the same. Especially during the winter months. It reminds me of a song one of my besties sent me yesterday by Harry Chapin…Circle. You can listen to it HERE.

I worked a little on that blanket and I finally give up. It’s a very complicated pattern. Each square needs to be perfect or it won’t fit together. I’m trying a different approach but I’m not holding out much hope. I could have made ten things in the time I’ve been messing with this one.

When I got frustrated with it, I decided to get back to the book I’m reading…The Pioneers by David McCullough. It’s about the Ohio Territory and the formation of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. It starts out with the first settlement formed being Marietta, OH just up the river from where I was born. I’m only 75 pages into it, and I really have to concentrate, but I’m enjoying it. My son-in-law’s day…our dear friend Ben…is reading it, too. He has a lot of family from around these parts so one of these days when they make it out to is it, we’ll explore all these haunts.

Mr. FixIt was deep into a war movie when I decided to read. Since it was sunny and not to terribly cold, I took my book and a hot beverage and went out to the camper. I turned on the electric heater, snuggled under my blanking in the recliner, and read till it was time to fix supper.

I picked up a rotisserie chicken at Sam’s on Thursday. Some of the supermarket varieties are so scrawny it doesn’t really pay to buy them. But the ones at Sam’s are plump and juicy and you get a lot of meat for $4.98! AND…you don’t have to cook! I had a bag of baby gold potatoes and a bag of broccoli florets handy. I quartered the little potatoes, sprayed them with a light coating of avocado oil and seasoned them with something I got at TJMax some time ago…a roasted vegetable seasoning with salt, pepper, garlic, rosemary, and paprika. I put the seasonings in a bag and tossed the oily potatoes in it and dumped them in the air fryer. 390° for 21 minutes.

While the potatoes were cooking, I put two leg quarters of the chicken in the microwave to reheat and steamed the broccoli. Everything came out at the exact same time and it looked like I’d worked over a hot stove all afternoon. You always know when what you’ve made for supper is a hit with the hubs….there were lots of yummy sounds coming from his side of the room. I will admit…it was great!

Even though I’m not a big TV fan, I’m a big Mr. FixIt fan so if spending quality time with him in the cold months means we watch the idiot box more often…so be it. We don’t know what the future brings…either of us could be gone tomorrow. I’ll tolerate some mindless TV if I can be with my sweetie.

I think I’ll do a FB Live this morning…Saturday Coffee with Marshmallow Ranch. Let’s shoot for around 10:00 Eastern Time, shall we??? Hope to see you here in a bit!
