A Last Night Camping

Last winter, I spent many nights sleeping in the camper. I love a cold room and a warm bed. I’ve been sleeping in the house since we got back from our camping trip to the beach and my body has become acclimated to a warmer room. Mr. FixIt and I have been working hard this week trying to make up for the lost time while he was so sick with Covid. So, I rewarded myself with a campout Friday night.

Wow! I piled on the covers and turned on the little space heater that I use in the camper. Once I warmed up, I got way too hot. I turned off the heater, turned down the electric blanket, and took off the comforter I had stacked on top. I drifted off to sleep, but I kept waking up feeling cold. Up went the electric blanket and the blanket. Too hot. Up, down. Up, down. I even considered going in the house, but that meant I’d have to get up and actually go outside in the cold. I rummaged around in the closet and found the wool hat I knitted a couple of months ago. I put it on and I was fine. I slept well the rest of the night.

When I got up and checked the temperature, I fully expected it to be in the low thirties. It was 46! Hokey smokes! That’s not nearly as cold as some of the nights I slept in the camper last winter. So, I took my stuff in the house and that will probably be the last of the camping for the season, unless it’s REALLY warm.

We are still playing catch up around here. We took the canopy off the pergola and put it away. Several of the zip ties that hold up the string of market lights had deteriorated from the sunlight, so I replaced them. We threw away the old chair cushions and stowed all the deck furniture to the side for the winter. Mr. FixIt took the ladder out of the pool. I put away various tools and yard items so now the back of the house looks neater. I trimmed the dead branches off the peony bush and found one lonely Maypop bulb so I spread the seeds out on a paper town to dry for next year. I heard a big tree fall in the woods across the road from the near field. Thank goodness it didn’t fall across the road or where it could hurt anyone or damage anything.

There’s still a lot to be done around here. I’ve been working on my book and I came to the conclusion…I actually have two books there. I have an accountability partner and we met yesterday on FaceTime. She has written several books and is quite knowledgeable about the whole process. She gave me some valuable input that I’ll put to use this week. In the meantime, I’m taking tomorrow off and I’ll sit and knit some. You know what they say about all work and no play.

Mr. FixIt continues to improve for which I am most grateful. He’ll wear a mask now, that’s for sure. He doesn’t want to get this again! I hope you have a blessed Sunday!
