A Day of Rest

I told Mr. FixIt yesterday that it felt like we’ve been running at breakneck speed since spring. And, I suppose in many ways, we have. It’s been an incredibly busy year and we have accomplished so much. Getting the roof over the family room finished was our biggest goal before we shift gears into winter and we are so relieved to have that part behind us.

It started raining just four hours after the kids came down the ladder off the roof and it’s been raining ever since. By the time I sat down to write this last night, there was about two inches in the rain gauge…in a period of about twenty hours. We actually have been pretty dry here and we were happy to have the moisture. We’ve been getting notifications on our phones this last week warning against any outdoor burning. That’s rather uncommon here in West Virginia.

Mr. FixIt Jr. called us three times yesterday to make sure the roof wasn’t leaking. I gave it a good look last evening and there may be one tiny little spot. I cannot be certain it hasn’t been there all along and I just hadn’t noticed. I really think it’s solid and we’ve got a good roof now. We are so grateful. And still pretty tired.

I was happy I had all those leftovers in the fridge yesterday to heat up so I didn’t have to cook other than an omelet for breakfast. We did some serious chair surfing and my biggest venture outside was to check the mail. Mr. FixIt was up and down the stairs several times checking the drain outside the back door to the basement. It has given us fits for years, overflowing into the house during really hard rains. It’s been much better since we started using the drain clearer once a month.

I did a little knitting on the sweater I’ve been working on. I haven’t had the time to just sit and knit like I had been and I’ll be so glad when I get this one completed. I’m almost finished with the first sleeve so it won’t be too much longer. We have something to do in town today so we have to get out and about for a while. We still have an 80% chance of rain through the afternoon.

This week sure flew by fast with all the work we did. I received the new Brenda Gantt cookbook and I haven’t even had a chance to open it up yet. I am looking forward to reading more of her stories and seeing what recipes she has included this time. I hope you are all staying safe in these storms. Enjoy some time outside in the fresh air because the temperatures are heading down in the next several days. And…as always…thank you so much for being here!

  1. Thank you again for sharing – so great the roofing project was finished before the rain came! Thank you Heavenly Father and the people who worked hard to make this a reality! Blessings!
