I am saddened and I admit so angered every time I hear about one of these mass shootings. Oklahoma City when my brother was in and out of the Murray Building for work; Columbine when I was at work and the school was one of my clients; Platte Canyon High School, Bailey, Colorado when my granddaughter was a student and inside that school; Sandy Hook Elementary when I have grandchildren, nieces and nephews the age of those children; Aurora Theatre when I live in Aurora …. and on and on and on.

We can pray to God for comfort and we should. God created us with brains and intelligence beyond any other living creature on this planet. We need to use that God given intelligence to start a conversation to bring about change to stop this carnage. I believe God expects nothing less of us. When we enter heaven we should be able to say we worked to end this madness.

IF this shooter was mentally unbalanced, he might chosen ANYwhere people would be congregating–as was the case in Aurora CO, or Las Vegas. Please don’t allow this horror to make you feel afraid in church. I think you’re right to try to be more aware of your surroundings, no matter where. We have to take some responsibility for our own safety, and for the safety of those around us. Speak up if we feel wary of something in particular. We have to be ready to be ‘the helpers’ as Fred Rodgers would say.

Thanks for speaking to this situation in a caring and thoughtful way. Again we have another heart-heavy time ahead. What can we do? We can commit to showing MORE love and understanding to those around us every day.
