I don’t see the lack of manners as a generational thing; of course it needs to be taught but I feel more like it’s a world view at the core of the issue. I was taught that the purpose of having manners was to make others feel welcome, comfortable and included. Not to be used to exclude others or a set of arbitrary ‘rules’ that people just perform out of obligation. Sincerity and goodwill make manners a good thing and bring people closer. People can tell if you’re sincere; and if you care. That’s the whole point in my opinion. Something we all need to pay forward.
