My surviving Gram was a single mother WWI widow who immigrated post-war from London to California. Raised her two girls with hard work and determination which gave her a steely exterior, but she had a beautiful smile that lit up a room as they say. Baking  cookies was not her style, but she found fun where she could and made sure her girls were brought up to be ladies.]]></description>
