Are We Living in a Tropical Jungle?

It sure feels like we’re living in the Amazon! West Virginia is currently experiencing hot and muggy conditions. I was going to stay out at the farm for a couple of days, but Mr. FixIt called me yesterday morning to say the kids invited us out for dinner. I stayed as long as I could. I decided to take my box of stuffed toys from my childhood home, and when I was in the basement, I turned on the dehumidifier. Now there’s one in the basement and another on the main floor. That should help keep things from mold and mildew.

I rushed home to change before we headed to the restaurant in town. I had to go downstairs to the laundry room to get some clean clothes, and when I stepped onto the cool cement, it was wet. My heart sank because the first thing I thought of was water leaking in. It turns out the walls were actually sweating from the humidity. I pulled the dehumidifier out and turned it on. The humidity in our basement was 98%!!! That’s about as close to RAIN as you can get!

It seems like the last week has made everything grow like crazy. It almost makes you feel a little claustrophobic because everything is closing in on you. I feel the need to get out the machete and start hacking away at this overgrowth of greenery. If it weren’t so hot, I would. I think there will be a lot of cold drinks and cool showers for the foreseeable future. I can get the Ninja Creami out and make some light and fruity sorbets. That would hit the spot!

I had several people call, text, and message me to see if we were anywhere near the severe flooding here in WV. The floods were about 120 miles away, up in the Northern Panhandle. The latest reports say seven people were killed and a few are still missing. Please keep everyone affected by these climate disasters in your prayers. So many people lost everything they owned. We Appalachian people are strong and resourceful, but still…losing everything you own but the clothes on your back is devastating, no matter who you are.

I hope y’all are safe!

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.   Romans 12:12 ESV

***Gratitude Journal***   Today, I am grateful that my family is safe from harm. I pray for those estranged in hopes of reconciliation. I am grateful the water in the basement was condensation and not a leak!
