❤️ I hope your drive home is sweet and uneventful. Plan your next adventure if you feel a little sad. Xx

Oh, Frannie...what a wonderful memory. It’s hard to remember our moms as being “young”. Thank you so much for sharing your memory with us! ❤️

Ginny, my favorite OBX memory is coming to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in 1969 with my parents and 5 siblings. Dad pulled up to the lighthouse in its original location. The parking lot was empty and the lighthouse door was open. We kids tumbled out of the car with Mom and began racing up the steps. Mom was just 39 and almost faster than we were!

Unfortunately, Mom looked down the spiral about halfway up the steps and couldn’t go on. One of my sisters and I literally walked her to a little bench along the stairs, deserted her there, and joined with the rest of the siblings, running around the fenced outer top part and yelling into the wind to our Dad standing by the car far below.

When we got tired of running in circles and screaming at the top of our lungs, we raced back down the spiral stairs. Two of us snagged Mom on the way down and got her back outside eventually.

It’s one of my favorite family memories! Mom used to collect different items with the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, which went to my nephew, Stephen, after her passing. We still talk about how fast she raced up the spiral stairs, at least for awhile. Plus, we had the lighthouse all to ourselves! That would never happen today.

Safe travels coming home from your honeymoon! I know you’ll miss the ocean, but your bed is going to feel so good tonight! ❤️
