The temperature barely crept into the 60’s yesterday so we didn’t go out on the bridge to fish. Every day this week has been clear and sunny. It’s supposed to warm up in the high 60’s today so we’ll try again.
A Dichotomy: A Coast Guard Helicopter flies over the Wright Brother’s Memorial
We drove all the way up to Duck yesterday just to go to Tullio’s Bakery! They are the best donuts on the island if you ask me. We bought two sweets and two savories. We nibbled on those and explored some of the shops along the boardwalk on the sound side. There is a cement statue of a black lab that Mr. FixIt has to have his picture taken with every year. There was a sign about the statue that said it’s 24 years old now and he was showing it a little.
A Nutria scurrying around the reeds in the sound.
We went to the Wright Brothers Memorial and walked around. A ranger gave a talk about the airplane and how they got it to work. Then she got into the exhibit ring and actually moved the parts to make the wings change as it would when they were flying it. That was fascinating! The place was packed, too. Busses of school children on field trips taking notes and interacting with all the educational displays warmed my heart. I only remember one field trip when I was in school and that was to the local dairy to see how the milk was gathered and processed every day. It DID bring back memories of being a parent chaperone on Daughter #2’s field trips. I couldn’t take part in my first daughter’s trips because I was working full time plus to put her dad through medical school and residency. I was a cheerleader mom for here later in high school.
This is the original hand carves propeller from the first successful flight at Kitty Hawk, NC. A model of the plane stands behind it.
After the Wright Memorial, I stopped in to see my friend Jeanne at Knitting Addiction. Of course, I had to buy a couple of things. There was a beautiful bamboo and merino heart with a hat pattern I had to have! And some scrubby yarn to make exfoliating cloths for the kids for their Christmas boxes. I also needed some double pointed needles for the socks I’m working on.
We made a quick stop at Walmart then headed down to our favorite antique shop. We love the owner and check in on her every trip. Captain Frank’s is next door and Mr. FixIt HAD to stop for a couple of hotdogs. I was still stuffed from that one “Cinnabomb” I had for breakfast. We found the seafood shop I went to in October and hit a thrift store then headed back to the camper for a break before sunset.
Today is supposed to be sunny again and warmer so we’ll try our hand at fishing one more time. It is Good Friday so we will watch services online. And tomorrow, we pack it in and head to High Point for a quick overnight then on home Sunday. At the beginning of the week, the time stretches out in front of us and it feels like forever. But “forever” ends quicker as we age.
We are really enjoying each other’s company. Being at the beach always feels so cozy and romantic since we came here for our honeymoon. I made reservations for October in the very same campsite. It kinda feels like ours now. There ought to be a plaque or something!

“He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed. Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.” 1 Peter 2:24-25 NLT
***Gratitude Journal***
Today I am grateful for my Lord and Savior who saved my soul so that I might live with Him for eternity. There is nothing like that feeling and the gratitude it brings.
