All Work and No Play Makes Ginny a Grumpy Girl

I got up early with Mr. FixIt to see him off for his day of fun with his son. My sweetie has a birthday coming up next week, so his son treated him to a trip to see his beloved Mountaineers play Auburn. He didn’t have much hope for the WVU to win, but anytime he gets to see them in person is a rare treat. The joy of spending time with his boy? Well, it was just extra special. One of the grands and her boyfriend and our daughter-in-law went along, to so that just added to the fun.

As soon as he was out the door, I fixed a little breakfast and settled in the Big Red Chair with my lap desk and multiple electronic devices. I worked through the morning…doing research and the like. Then I headed over to a friends house. He’s redoing his kitchen and wanted “a cook’s perspective” on some of the ideas his contractor left him with.

I’d never been in the stately brick home across the street from the courthouse, but I’ve admired it from afar for years. I became friends with Richard after Sparky died. I was really excited to get the invitation for a tour and learn the history of the house. The original owner was a young doctor. He lived in the home and had his medical office next door. He had some interactions with a local family and met their young daughter. He was immediately smitten with her, but she was not of age yet, so the good doctor had to wait a few years before he married the love of his life.

They added four children to their brood and lived a lifetime in the home. When the elders passed away, Richard bought the beautiful house. He is a collector of some wonderful antiques. He also has accumulated many of the original family’s keepsakes and he has these things housed in various rooms of the house. He hosts tours from time to time so others can share in the history.

After we discussed the design points in the kitchen, I gave Richard my recommendations then we set out to take the tour. Like my longtime family friends who own the mansion in the historic district of Parkersburg, Richard’s home is filled with antiques to the point it resembles a living history museum. The only difference is, he loves primitives. That’s my favorite too, so I was in hog heaven. I was so taken with the tasteful decor, I nearly forgot to take photos till we were up in the attic. That’s where he has his toys from childhood. He had a Christmas tree set up and had the smaller toys tucked in the branches as ornaments. It was such a delight!

I picked Richard’s brain about my project and he added some good ideas that I can incorporate. More things to add to my list!

Big had another swim meet today…the last one before the Conference Championship. She is three time zones away and I watch her on closed circuit TV. However…remember me telling you I’ve been having trouble with my electronics? Well, I could NOT get it to work, no matter what I did. So, I’ll have to rely on the word of her mama and Sue…her other grandma.

All in all, it was a fun and productive day that was sunny and warm….ish!

“….Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work.”

Colossians 3:22-25 MSG
