When Things Don’t Go As Planned

Old house

The first two of our three day getaway was perfect. The weather was moderate. We hiked, fished, lazed around, read, cooked, and sat out long after dark watching the boats go up and down the river. We had to go into town Wednesday to salvage some doors, windows, and light fixtures out of a structure that’s being torn down today. It was hot, dirty work and by 2:00, we were done. We ran some errands then headed to a restaurant for lunch. We’ve eaten salads there before but I was hungry so I ordered a chicken salad wrap and fries. We left to head back up to the river to the campground and within 10 minutes, I was sick as a dog. The thing that scared me was my heart was doing weird things and I felt faint. Mr. FixIt took me to the hospital. They kept me overnight for observation and did a ton of tests. They finally decided they thought I had food poisoning. I got home from the hospital yesterday and unhooked the camper and went to bed.

There comes a point when you have to realize…even though you may FEEL 24…when you’re 64…you ARE 64! That’s not “old” by any stretch of the imagination. But for the first time in a long time…I feel my age. I have to slow down just a little bit. Not enough to stop. But enough to take care of myself.

Not the way I wanted my little getaway to go. But I need to listen to my body and not keep pushing so hard. Today, I mattress surf! ❤️

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:19-20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  1. I hope you feel better soon. I understand. Went to routine doc checkup told her about passing out bout month ago. Probably breaking nose. They did an ekg because of the way I passed out. It showed some misfires so waiting on cardiologist referral now.

  2. Food poisoning will make you think you are dying at any age. It is very scary. I am so sorry you had to go through that. It will take a few days to get your land legs…and took me a couple weeks to want to really eat. Glad you have someone wonderful to take care of you.

  3. Well that was no fun for sure! It’s been a long time since I’ve had to deal with food poisoning but I still remember it. So glad Mr Fixit was there to get you to the hospital and be by your side. And yes, slowing down just a bit can be a good thing.

    1. I am! I had a wicked migraine last night but I attribute that to lack of caffeine and sleep. I’ve been up this morning, ate a small bowl of oatmeal and I’m working on raising my caffeine titre! Thanks for checking in with me…it was a pleasure to meet you, as well! ❤️

  4. Food poisoning is a horrible experience….so sorry it happened to you. Keep listening to your body and take good care of yourself. <3

  5. Isn’t it wonderful though, that our body is always on full alert when it comes to that which we should not consume? It comes with great discomfort, but it means everything is still on guard!

I hope you can take it easy for several days, keep the stress and physical activity down for awhile, to reward your body for watching out for ya!
