My Guardian Angel

Have you ever done a search on Google to research something in the Bible? I never even read the Bible till 2004 after my mom died. Between that and “A Purpose Driven Life” I came to really love this Jesus guy and what he had to say about peaceful living so I became a Christian. I’m not a biblical scholar by any means, so I have to study the Bible a lot to come up with the perfect scripture to accompany my posts that illustrates what my thinking was when writing. It would be so much easier to just pick a verse and write something about that. I do it backwards but I learn more, I believe.

I’ve been thinking a lot about something that happened in the aftermath of the car accident I was in recently. I’ve been thinking about guardian angels and what the Bible has to say about them. Google gave me a boatload of verses and I dove in to see if what I suspected could be true. I wrote a lengthy post about this shortly after the accident, but in reading it afterward, I felt there was too much detail about the accident itself so to protect the identity of others, I removed it. I want to revisit that a little bit…especially after a conversation I had with Daughter #1 this weekend.

While I was sitting in my truck after the accident, an EMT reaching up from the back seat holding my head still, I could see in the side view mirror. The State Highway Patrolman arrived to investigate and as he came around the back end of my truck, called out, “Boys? Who’s smokin’ a cigar back here?” I looked up at the rescue people and they were all looking at each other, puzzled. No one was smoking a cigar. I said to the young EMT, “Did you hear that? Did he say he smelled cigar smoke?” He answered that, indeed, he had. I smiled and said, “My late husband is here.” I knew I was going to be ok.

Now, here’s the other half of the story. I finally had a chance to have a lengthy conversation with my daughter a few days after the accident. She told me there was something she hadn’t told me yet. She wanted to know if I knew what time the accident occurred. I told her and she said not too long before that, my son-in-law was driving my granddaughters to school when an Uber driver ran a stop sign without even glancing in his direction. He was driving a small SUV with my 13-year-old granddaughter in the front seat (she’s plenty tall enough) and the 9-year-old in the back. He stood on the brakes, just as I had done, but miraculously he stopped inches from t-boning the driver which would have most assuredly set off their airbags and could have caused serious injury to my loved ones.

So, here’s my theory. Mr. Virgo was out on the back nine in heaven, playing a round of golf, when he sensed trouble brewing down below. What if…what if, somehow he was able to tell God, “Look, this is one tough woman with a mighty big truck. She can take it. Can you intervene in here and save her babies from getting hurt? That would just kill her. Can we do that?” We don’t know the ways of God. Maybe it was just a coincidence. But maybe…just maybe…my guardian angel was watching out for me and left the scent of cigar smoke to tell me he was there. I’ll never know for sure this side of heaven, but I like to think it’s a possibility. ❤️

“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭91:11-12‬ ‭ESV‬‬

  1. This brought tears to my eyes just thinking about the faith you have….I’m glad you are open to the possibilities of mr. Virgo being there and the reason you got the brunt of the impact instead of your family member .
Such faith is heartwarming to me Ginny.
thanks a bunch! Gini in Georgia
You never cease to amaze me with your piqued sense of sensibility !

  2. Hi Ginny, I to know that Mr. Virgo was with you and your son in law before the accident. I have always felt that my first husband has been watching over and the kids. Don’t get me wrong present hubby is always watching but I just know my first is watching over us. Someday I will tell you a story about his presence the days my kids got married. Love you, and I hope when we had both maybe I can visit the farm.

  3. I totally believe in angels and I’m sure Mr Virgo was there with you. I had a visitation by an angel at the top of Mt Whitney in 2002. I will never forget that day as long as I live!

  4. Mr. Virgo was definitely letting you know, that he was around. Our Angels are always around us, Ginny. I am thankful, to hear that you, your son-in-law and granddaughters are okay.
Back in 1994, I had a similar experience with Angels and they made sure that my car made it to a safe spot, on the freeway. Whenever, I drive past the spot, I always remember that day. My story would be a little long for here! But yes, God sends His Angels whenever we call out to Him, in our time of need. <3

  5. Ginny, I love this story. I too believe in guardian angels. My brain has been quite foggy since my sweet husband died. It often makes me nervous to drive when having one of those bad days. I have had a couple of close calls since then but believe it was my angel protecting me (and others). Thank you for sharing your beautiful stories.

    1. Oh, Mary Ann…my heart is with you. Hang in there. The fog lifts, it looms, it lifts, it looms. But life blossoms again. ❤️

  6. I totally believe in angels. They are always around…. God’s messengers ❤️
    Love your story, Ginny

  7. My grandmother had a wreck many years ago before people wore seatbelts. She told me she felt arms under her body, and that she was being carried. She found herself lying on the ground away from the car, completely uninjured.
I once drove down a local street with cars on both sides. My husband said, slow down, the cars are so close together here. Right then, a boy about 6 yrs. old darted out in the road, chasing the ball that had just bounced in front of me. I was horrified and tried to brake, he ran almost into the side of my car, but a few inches from it, his arms suddenly shot straight up over his head, like someone grabbed his hands, he rotated in a fast spin on a dime, and ran up to his porch. In shock, I said, “Don’t ever run out in the street like that again, I almost hit you!” My husband saw it too. He was fine and I drove on. I believe in God and the protection of angels.

  9. This is weird Ginny. I was a little skeptical, but as I was reading, I stated to smell cigar smoke and no one around here smokes cigars. I never even knew Mr. Virgo. I guess he was correcting me???
