Fun on the Farm

Red flowering tree

I got my first company on the farm yesterday! I’m telling you…I was SO excited. I even bought a new vinyl tablecloth at Dollar General for the occasion! I picked up a potted hyacinth at the grocery store, dressed my bed in floral pastels, and the house looked positively springy!

I love having company. It gives me a chance to cook. Open-faced cheeseburgers and locally made Mr. Bee potato chips for lunch and pork loin chops, brown and wild rice and fresh asparagus for supper. We roamed the farm and explored the old barn and found a few treasures. An old lantern, some spats and a hat that I think belonged to my great grandfather, and the rusty front of an old Model A Ford that I want to hang on the wall in the dining room. While we were driving out the dirt road at the back of the farm, V saw a flash of red and we couldn’t identify what it was, even with binoculars. She has no fear. I have an abundance of caution. Between us and this red thing was what I would consider snake territory but with great caution and beating on the ground, we carefully moved forward and got a good look at the plant. Now, to identify it. Anyone have a clue?

I put the green twinkly light out back aimed up into the trees. It looks like a fairy land out there shining above TOW-Wanda where my company is all tucked in. I wanted her to be very comfortable here. V is the West Virginia Wrangler for Sisters on the Fly and we are planning an event for September in the Mid Ohio Valley to coincide with the Sternwheel Festival. Today we’ll be checking out venues. I love camping with my Sisters and I’m hoping this will be a well attended and fun event to remember! ❤️

  1. This looks like the seeds from some variety of maple tree. We used to throw them in the air as they dried and split into 2 “wings” and watch them spin like helicopter blades to the ground. Enjoy your company, Welcome Spring!

  2. I’m not so sure about your picture. Here in MS I have something similar but not that colorful nor that big of a cluster. Was this a tree or a bush? I have a sugar maple tree & tulip popular trees in my yard & one of those trees has a much smaller version but it’s green.

  3. You are, without a doubt, the Hostess with the Mostess! Grand little adventures, great food, outdoor dining and camping in the backyard are some of my favorite things. Thank you soooo much

    1. You are most welcome!!! It’s been quite the eventful couple of days and I loved having you here!!! ❤️

    1. Those are difficult times, Debra…but, I’m sure you won’t regret he time spent with your parents while you have them. Be sure to take care of you, too…as best you can. ❤️

  4. Say hello to V for me will see her soon in the tree house. Please make the September event later in the month so I can come please. Have a great time.

  5. Thank you for your blog posts. I’ve been a daily reader now for about a week. I found your blog through SOTF – thinking of joining. I do not have a little camper yet, but I’m working on that. Maybe by the end of summer — I so appreciate the Bible verse you have each day. It’s part of my daily devotions now. Thanks for all you to do – you are a new daily blessing to me.

    1. Oh, Diane…you have no idea what a lift that gives me! The Sisters have been such a blessing to me. You don’t need a camper to join! Many Sisters stay in cabins, lodges, hotels, tents. Heck, some sleep in their vans, trucks, or cars! I hope you’ll consider them. I also highly recommend Girl Campers with Janine Pettit. They are a wonderful group of gals, too! Camping empowered me! ❤️

  6. Your first paragraph made me smile and laugh Ginny. ?

I arrived in NC on April 11..ready to start my ‘next chapter’.

Went to the store with my daughter last night…bought a vinyl tablecloth and hyacinth (purple) I can breathe in that decent all day!!!!
