Road Trip: Day Seventeen…”Family First”

I've known Mr. FixIt for nearly fifty years. He's gregarious and fun and funny. He's everyone's best friend and, just like me, he has never known a stranger. He fits into every crowd, can talk on a number of subjects, and always has something to contribute to conversations. When I found myself with the opportunity to be in a relationship with my long time friend, of course I jumped at the chance. I had no doubt that he would fit right into my family. It's like he's always been a part of us and I couldn't be happier. You know, Mr. Virgo wasn't my first marriage. There were two before him. My daughter laughs and calls me Elizabeth…as in Taylor. It wasn't my plan to have this many men in my life. It was my destiny.

Yesterday was the best day! Family time, time spent exploring Fort Collins, and then the other grandparents joined us in the afternoon. My daughter and son-in-law went to a wedding and the grandparents and grandchildren stayed home and cooked a nice dinner. Afterwards we all sat on the deck and visited as the sun set. We watched the bats come out and pick off the mosquitoes. We watched the neighborhood rabbits forage in the overgrown yard of an abandoned house across the street. Just after dusk, we heard the calls of a pack of coyotes beyond the river. The oppressive heat of the day gave way to the first cool breeze of the night and we all breathed a collective sigh of relief. I try to spend every moment I can sitting outdoors when the weather permits it. Winters seem so dreadfully long when I can't go out after dark and enjoy the front porch.

Today is an action packed day of fun with the grandchildren then we head back to Denver to prepare for our camping adventure that begins on Monday. I can't wait to tell you about the campgrounds and all the sites we will be visiting in the coming week. I get to see my brother and my friends and make more introductions. I am so blessed! ❤️

  1. Excellent post. Thank you for the reminders! I get to be with my grands today . True that life is full of possibilities. Seize the moment. I will remind them of our blessings from God…sincerely, Gini from Georgia

  2. I worked for 35 years in a cement block building with no windows on the Meridian Navy base. I lived in a small apt with windows only on the front and back. Now that I’m alone in the country, I spend as much time as possible on my screened front porch. I think if I had a bed out here, I would sleep here. I too dread the winter.

  3. I have two of my granddaughters who live in Germany visiting. We are spending the day together today shopping. Family is first.

  4. Counting the days till I get to be with my only Grandaughter and her sweet son ,it has been much to long .thank you for your sweet post and I love sitting on porches.
